Chapter 246 — Tracking the Fugitives
Years of Heartflutter Page 2 of 3
Bao Lin and Hou Lin naturally knew Chen Shutang—just two days ago they had even helped her book a car. They also knew that Chen Fei was Chen Shutang's father, so they could well understand Yang Ce's expression at this moment.
"Brother Yang, how about you head back first? Baozi and I will stay here and follow things through?" Hou Lin suggested.
"Never mind, I'll stay right here," Yang Ce said. "Sooner or later all of this has to come out into the open. The time has come."
Lately, worn down by one assassination attempt after another, Yang Shuoxuan had come around considerably. His identity had not even been made public yet, and already it had drawn so much trouble; so he was no longer afraid to reveal who he was.
Perhaps once his identity was public, the trouble would actually grow less.
With that thought, Yang Shuoxuan made up his mind to wait here for Chen Fei to arrive.
Chen Fei was nothing if not efficient. In about ten minutes or so, he arrived at the headquarters of Mingyang Entertainment with several police officers in tow, and under Guo Jian's guidance came to the general manager's office.
"Director Chen!" Hou Lin hurried forward to shake hands with Chen Fei, and after him came Bao Lin.
Chen Fei knew all about Bao Lin's past and was well aware that the fellow had started out as a big-time hoodlum. Still, he had found it rather strange when Bao Lin abruptly founded a security company and set himself on the straight and narrow.
But Chen Fei was glad that Bao Lin had turned over a new leaf. Afterward he never looked down on the man, treating him simply as a successful businessman.
After shaking hands with the two of them, Chen Fei suddenly noticed Yang Ce standing in the office and was taken aback. "Yang Ce? What are you doing here?"
"Uncle Chen!" Yang Heng stepped forward rather boldly. "Uncle Chen, as a matter of fact, I hold shares in this company too. Hou Lin, Bao Lin, and I set it up together in the beginning—only because I'm still a student and have no time to manage anything, I don't take part in day-to-day operations. Now that the company has run into such a serious problem, naturally I had to be here."
"Oh?" Chen Fei looked at Yang Ce with suspicion. "How do you have so much money?"
"My godfather gave it to me," Yang Ce said, pinning the matter of the funds on Liu Yan. The Hong Kong auction was a matter of record in any case, so Yang Ce was not worried about Chen Fei digging into it.
"I see!" Chen Fei nodded. "But do your parents know about all this?"
"That's something I'll have to explain to you slowly another time, Uncle Chen." Yang Ce waved a hand. "Right now the pressing matter is catching those two vice presidents!"
"That's right, I nearly forgot the real business." Chen Fei said hastily, "Take us to those two vice presidents' offices and have a look."
Hou Lin nodded in assent and led Chen Fei and the officers toward Liu Chan's and Qu Daming's offices.
Chen Fei was rather skilled at criminal investigation; as they walked, he listened carefully as Hou Lin and Bao Lin described the situation. When he heard that the two men had been on the run for some time, he asked, "What are the license plates and models of the cars they drive?"
"Liu Chan drives an Audi A6L, plate number Song AEG777. Qu Daming has a Mercedes-Benz, plate number Song GGG50," Bao Lin said.
"When did they drive out of the company parking lot?" Chen Fei asked.
"According to the parking lot footage, they left at nine forty-eight."
Hou Lin had already gone through the surveillance footage, so he had all these figures at his fingertips.
Chen Fei nodded, took out his phone, dialed a number, and said, "Traffic police command center? This is Chen Fei. Hello, Director Sun—help me check the surveillance footage near Mingyang Entertainment on Ximeng Road at nine forty-eight. Track an Audi A6L, plate number Song AEG777, and a Mercedes-Benz S16COO, plate Song GGG. Good—once you've traced where they went, call me at once."
At Chen Fei's phone call, Bao Lin's and Hou Lin's eyes lit up. Why hadn't they thought of such a simple method before? As long as they traced the surveillance footage at each intersection for that time, they could easily find where those two cars had gone!
After all, Chen Fei came from a criminal investigation background; he was more than familiar with how to handle a case like this. The pressing task, naturally, was to find out where those two cars had gone.
Before long, Chen Fei's phone rang. He answered it, listened carefully for a moment, then nodded. "All right, I understand."
"How is it?" Bao Lin asked eagerly.
"We have news. The two cars didn't head in the same direction after leaving—they went opposite ways. But in the end they met up at the gate of Songjiang Garden. The people in the cars got into a taxi with plate number Song J104 and left together. The cars were just abandoned in the parking lot in front of Songjiang Garden," Chen Fei said. "I've already had someone contact the taxi driver; I expect results soon."
Sure enough, word came again quickly. A call from the traffic police said the taxi driver had indeed taken two people to the Songjiang bus station, and the two men's appearances matched Chen Fei's description exactly.
"The Songjiang bus station? So they're trying to run?" Hou Lin asked instinctively.
"It's possible," Chen Fei said with a nod. "They chose to leave by bus, the form of transport with the loosest checks of all—clearly that was planned in advance. But I've already sent men to the bus station to look into it."
Fortunately, the waiting hall of the Songjiang bus station was also equipped with surveillance cameras. By now many public places in Songjiang had them installed, and a place like a bus station, with such a huge flow of people, was naturally no exception.
Though checking through the footage was rather troublesome, in the end they found Liu Chan and Qu Daming on the surveillance recordings. It was confirmed that the two had bought tickets to Donghai and had already left Songjiang on an earlier bus.
Songjiang and Donghai were fairly close, so obviously Liu Chan and Qu Daming must have reached Donghai by now.
The fact that Liu Chan and Qu Daming switched vehicles midway showed they had some awareness of counter-surveillance. But they were not professionals after all, and switching cars had done them no good in the end—their trail was discovered all the same.
"Donghai?" Yang Ce was slightly startled when he learned where Liu Chan and Qu Daming had gone. Instinctively, he thought of Sun Jie—because in Donghai, the only person he knew was Sun Jie.
"Yes, it's confirmed—the two of them have fled to Donghai," Hou Lin reported to Yang Ce.
Chen Fei and his officers had finished their investigation and gone back, evidently preparing to assign men to Donghai.
As for the matter of Yang Ce himself, that would have to wait until the case was closed before he could discuss it with Chen Fei in detail. Chen Fei had no time to fuss over such things now. Although Chen Fei had some reservations about Yang Ce mixing with Bao Lin, Bao Lin was at least running a legitimate business now, so Chen Fei let it go.
"What are they going to Donghai for?" Yang Ce frowned. Intuitively, this seemed anything but simple. By rights, if the two men wanted to flee, they shouldn't run to Donghai—when people flee, they usually head for some small place; the more remote, the harder to find. Who runs to a provincial capital? It didn't quite make sense.
"Who knows?" Bao Lin shook his head, unable to fathom what Liu Chan and Qu Daming were thinking either.
"Let's wait for the results. I still have faith in Uncle Chen's ability," Yang Ce said. He did not care about that one hundred thirty million, but he had to make this a warning, to wake Bao Lin and Hou Lin up—the company must never be allowed to suffer anything like this again.
"Brother Yang… I'm sorry… I…" Bao Lin began cautiously, but Yang Ce cut him off halfway.
