Chapter 1409 — Troubles Pile Up

The Blossom Guardian

Tang Yun picked up the phone and was about to dial the number of Gu Mengyao's home. She had gotten only halfway through when Uncle Qing strode in, saying as he walked, "Is Tang Yun here? Is everything all right? Have the enemies gone?"

"Uncle Qing!" Seeing him arrive, Tang Yun set down the receiver and hurried over. "Uncle Qing, Wu Chengtian is hurt — Uncle Zhu wounded him. Take a look, should we send him to the hospital?"

"Oh?" At her words, Uncle Qing hurried over, bent down, and examined Wu Chengtian's injuries. He could not help but frown. "If only Xiaoyi were here. But he isn't, so we'll have to send him to the hospital first! I'll drive him over right now. Will you come with me?"

"All right!" Tang Yun nodded. Wu Chengtian had been injured on her account; naturally she could not simply leave him to his fate. She quickly changed her shoes and said to her mother, "Mom, stay here and get the property management to come fix the security door. I'm going out for a bit!"

Tang Yun was not worried that Uncle Zhu and his people would come back. Since they had fled the moment they heard Wei Zhao's name, they clearly would not be returning.

Still, the day's events had left Tang Yun somewhat depressed. Zhao Fafa did not know how formidable Wei Zhao was, but the helper he had brought, this Uncle Zhu, was thoroughly terrified of Wei Zhao — the mere mention of the name had sent him into outright retreat, as though he feared Wei Zhao would come looking for trouble with him.

If that was so, Tang Yun could simply have given Wei Zhao's name early on and sent Uncle Zhu on his way — then Wu Chengtian would never have been hurt. But how could she have known that Zhao Fafa had never told Uncle Zhu Wei Zhao's name?

On the way to the hospital, Tang Yun told Uncle Qing the whole story from beginning to end. Uncle Qing nodded and sighed. "So it was Uncle Zhu. He was the close guard of that Zhao Qibing — the one Wei Zhao wounded back then. It was over that business of demolishing your family's house that Wei Zhao stepped in."

"Ah, so it was him! No wonder he's so afraid of Wei Zhao!" The realization dawned on Tang Yun.

"When I came earlier, I saw two men come out of your building's entrance and drive off in a Ferrari. So it was those two. Had I known, I would have stopped them right there!" said Uncle Qing.

"That won't be necessary. Wei Zhao isn't home now, and better one trouble less than one more. Let's wait until he's back to deal with everything," said Tang Yun. She did not want to stir up trouble while Wei Zhao was away.

"Very well, then we'll wait until Wei Zhao returns..." Uncle Qing nodded.

Wu Chengtian's injuries were all internal. Though he was an external-school cultivator whose meridians played only a small part, they would still affect his strength to some degree; even once healed, he would find it hard to recover his former power. What was more, all his organs were damaged, and such wounds would not heal in a moment. Under normal treatment, he would have to lie in a sickbed for at least a year.

Still, Wu Chengtian's life was not in danger for the moment, and that let both Uncle Qing and Tang Yun breathe a sigh of relief. Though he had not yet woken, he was past the critical stage; as for the rest of his injuries, there was no harm in waiting for Wei Zhao to return and treat them.

Only, with both guards at home wounded, the situation was somewhat grim. Uncle Qing would have to guard Gu Mengyao and the others with even greater care, and hold out until Wei Zhao returned...

A mere three days after the massive bank robbery and the jewelry-store robbery in Songshan City, another earth-shaking robbery had taken place!

Another bank had been robbed, with a method identical to the previous ones — pure, one-sided violent robbery. The robber had again acted alone: after entering the bank he said not a word, smashed the teller's window and vaulted inside to carry out the robbery, then used brute force to break open the safe and take the cash and foreign currency within.

The robbery was extraordinarily swift; the whole process took only a few short minutes. The bank's money was swept clean, and then the robber hurried out of the building. By the time the police reached the scene, he was long gone.

Such a method was hardly common. Robbers in the past had worked in gangs; the first thing they did upon entering a bank was seize hostages, then threaten the clerks into opening the safe for them. That cost them a great deal of time — and gave the police ample time to arrive.

But this robber's speed was simply astonishing, without the slightest delay or drag.

Qiu Lingshan had not expected that the moment she returned to the police station she would run into a case of such magnitude — and what gave her an even worse headache was that Liu Wangli told her two robberies had occurred before this one, committed in exactly the same way!

She had originally been delighted at having captured Lao Hei, along with the men Lao Hei, Lao Keng, James, and Lord Hao had left guarding the tomb. The case could not be called a complete success, but it had been handled fairly smoothly, and all the suspects had been brought to justice — that alone was a great merit.

Yet before Qiu Lingshan could even enjoy it, troubles came thick and fast.

Three robberies — three of them, and spaced so closely together! It nearly drove Qiu Lingshan mad. Who on earth was this? So audacious as to dare commit crimes in succession?

Chen Yutian had returned to the police station with Qiu Lingshan. He had meant to discuss with her the interrogation of the tomb-robbery suspects, but now it seemed they would not be able to discuss it for quite a while. Seeing Qiu Lingshan's brows tightly knit, Chen Yutian could not help shaking his head and sighing. "Lingshan, don't put too much pressure on yourself. The robbery has already happened; worrying is useless. All we can do is search for clues with all our strength. But judging by the method, this man is definitely a cultivator too!"

"Yes, he must be a cultivator. That only makes the case harder to crack," said Qiu Lingshan. "Nearly every cultivator in Songshan City is on file here. I'm afraid we'll have to get in touch with Feng Tianlong's side for help — this is a bit beyond our capabilities."

"Right. If the suspect really is a cultivator, then we certainly need to communicate with the Mystery Investigation Bureau and have them send assistance." Chen Yutian nodded. "Shall we first talk about the tomb-robbery case?"

"All right..." Qiu Lingshan rubbed her somewhat aching temples. Things had to be solved step by step; there was no use in fretting now. In any case, Liu Wangli and the others had already gone to gather clues, so she might as well study the tomb-robbery case first.
