Chapter 1408 — Scared Off

The Blossom Guardian

"Young pup, you're quite something. A mere early-Yellow Rank fighter, and you actually managed to wound me — and when we crossed palms, you could even bounce the force back into me. Truly astonishing!" Uncle Zhu sneered. "If I'm not mistaken, you're of the Wu family of Iron Hands, aren't you? What you cultivate is precisely the outer-school art of the hands?"

Earlier, Wu Chengtian had said his surname was Wu; put together with his fighting style, it was not hard for Uncle Zhu to judge who he was and where he came from.

"Indeed — and now that you know who I am, why don't you get lost? You've wounded me; aren't you afraid of the Wu family's revenge?" Wu Chengtian's blood and qi were in turmoil, his body a misery within, and there was not a shred of strength left in him to stand against Uncle Zhu. So he could only try to frighten him with words, hoping to buy himself some time.

"Hahahaha!" Hearing Wu Chengtian's words, Uncle Zhu burst into wild laughter. "A mere family of the mundane world, and you dare boast of revenge before this old man? The Wu family — I've never once set them in my eyes! Since you've provoked me, you'll pay the price you owe. Go on, then — go and die!"

With that, Uncle Zhu made to step forward and finish Wu Chengtian off.

"Wait!" Wu Chengtian was badly startled. He had never expected his name to count for nothing — that this creature feared the Wu family's revenge not at all, and even meant to hunt him down to the last. Cold sweat broke out at once upon his brow. He did not want to die! This old man was vicious beyond reason — he actually meant to kill?

"Have you any last words?" Uncle Zhu asked mildly, in no hurry to step up and do away with Wu Chengtian. To his mind, the man was dead already, with no hope of escaping his palm, so whether he killed him a moment sooner or later hardly mattered.

"If you kill me, my boss will surely avenge me!" Wu Chengtian said. "And my old boss will never let you off!"

Wu Chengtian thought to himself: Uncle Qing, why haven't you come yet? I'm about to die here — hurry up and save me!

"Your boss?" Uncle Zhu was momentarily taken aback. "And who is your boss?"

"Uncle Zhu, this kid's playing word games with you. His boss is that little chit Tang Yun's boyfriend!" Zhao Fafa explained, mightily pleased with his own cleverness, then turned to Wu Chengtian: "Rest easy. Once you're dead, Wei Zhao is next!"

"Wei Zhao is my old boss. My boss isn't Wei Zhao..." Wu Chengtian went on, dragging the time out.

"Gah?" At the name Wei Zhao, Uncle Zhu froze on the spot. "What did you say? Your old boss is Wei Zhao? Which Wei Zhao?"

"Which Wei Zhao could it be? The boss of Brother Ergoudan, the one who killed Jin Wudi with a single punch. Brother Ergoudan is my boss, so Wei Zhao is naturally my old boss!" Wu Chengtian said. "If I die, you're finished — your whole family is finished. When the time comes, my boss and my old boss will wipe out every last one of you!"

"Uh..." Uncle Zhu's face went somewhat dark. He felt his calves begin to quiver. Surely not? This kid's boss was Ergoudan? That ruthless bastard who had killed Jin Wudi with a single punch? And Ergoudan's boss was Wei Zhao? Wei Zhao again?

Uncle Zhu rather felt like weeping. Damn it all — wasn't this a fine way to screw a man over? Even Young Master Bing did not dare touch Wei Zhao these days, and here he was, backing up Zhao Fafa and making trouble for Wei Zhao? This little chit was Wei Zhao's girlfriend?

That was it! A flash of insight came to Uncle Zhu, and he finally understood why the name Tang Yun had rung so familiar. Back then, when he himself had been beaten into a cripple and Zhao Qibing's legs had been broken — had it not all been because they provoked this little chit named Tang Yun?

And now he had gone and stirred her up again? As for Wu Chengtian being wounded, that was nothing much — so long as the man didn't die, Wei Zhao likely would not press it too far. But he himself had come to harass Tang Yun again, and with Wei Zhao being the sort who shielded his own so fiercely — Mother of God! Uncle Zhu dared not imagine further.

"What? Scared?" Wu Chengtian was no fool either. Seeing the shifting, uncertain look on Uncle Zhu's face, he guessed that the man had scruples about Wei Zhao and Ergoudan. He did not know why, but this was a good thing!

"A misunderstanding... I gave offense before this..." There was no help for it; Uncle Zhu had to get the formalities straight. Otherwise, if because of this business he truly drew that deadly star Wei Zhao to his door, would it not be bringing trouble on Young Master Bing? And with his own strength so wanting, he had no means at all of dealing with Wei Zhao; so at this moment he could only bow his head.

Now it was Wu Chengtian's turn to be dumbfounded. He had not expected the names of Ergoudan and Wei Zhao to be so useful — the moment he spoke them, this Uncle Zhu was frightened half to death and it straightaway became a "misunderstanding." Yet what puzzled Wu Chengtian was this: could it be that the old man hadn't known Tang Yun was Wei Zhao's girlfriend?

Why did he look as though he knew nothing about it at all?

"Hmph. If you knew that Sister-in-law Tang Yun is the girlfriend of old boss Wei Zhao, and you still dared to come? You truly aren't afraid of death!" Wu Chengtian said with a cold snort.

"I was not aware of this before. This was indeed rash of me, and I am sorry for it. I shall take my leave now!" With that, Uncle Zhu did not dare linger, and turned to go.

Zhao Fafa, however, grew anxious. He did not understand — why had such a promising situation suddenly been abandoned? Weren't they going to finish Wu Chengtian off and then let Wei Zhao come and meet his death? How had it turned into a misunderstanding and an apology? What on earth was going on?

"Uncle Zhu, Uncle Zhu, don't go! Why are you leaving?" Zhao Fafa was frantic, and hurried off after Uncle Zhu. But Uncle Zhu did not even turn his head, and helpless, Zhao Fafa could only run along after him. If Uncle Zhu were gone, how could he possibly stand against Wu Chengtian? He'd be beaten to death!

Wu Chengtian had meant to teach Zhao Fafa a lesson, but he had no strength left even to climb up off the ground; every bone in him felt scattered apart. Seeing Uncle Zhu leave, his heart eased, and he coughed up another mouthful of blood and passed out cold.

"You... how are you? Do you need me to call an ambulance?" Seeing Wu Chengtian collapse, Tang Yun grew anxious, yet she did not know what to do. She had no idea whether other cultivators went to the hospital after being injured, but Wei Zhao didn't, so Tang Yun wasn't sure whether Wu Chengtian needed to or not.

But Wu Chengtian had already fainted, and could not answer her.

"This... what on earth is going on?" Mother Tang had been frightened out of her wits before; only now, after Uncle Zhu and the others had gone, did she come back to herself, and she asked, trembling, "Yun'er, who did you offend? What does that young gentleman do?"
