Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 397 of 501

"Call the police?" Yang Ce was instantly amused. He had only been bored, and Jing Yu had done him a great favor today, so he had decided to get her a little compensation. No matter how much of Jing Yu had been filmed, she was at least a victim, so it was only fair for Yang Ce to ask for some money. But this Manager Wang's words had turned rather ugly, so Yang Ce sneered: "Call the police? Sure, go ahead and call them right now. Want me to dial for you?"

Manager Wang saw that Yang Ce had not been scared off, and his own confidence began to waver. Yang Mo's unabashed, self-assured manner made it plain that this was a man with connections—not some ordinary street tough who could be fobbed off with a few smooth words. Gritting his teeth, he said, "Fine. If you find a camera, I'll pay you a million too."

"What about us? We tried just now too!" The other customers who had been buying clothes were not about to let it go either, and they all began to clamor.

Manager Wang, confident in himself as ever, said impatiently, "If one is found, I'll pay each of you a million."

Only then did the crowd settle down, and they followed Manager Wang toward the fitting rooms. But the fitting rooms were cramped, holding only two people at a time, so the man who had kicked up the fuss first went in together with Manager Wang.

Everyone waited outside in anxious suspense—everyone except Yang Mo, who stood there utterly unruffled.

After a while, the man came out looking dejected, while Manager Wang was wreathed in smiles. "Well? You checked it yourself, didn't you? There's no camera in our shop. I'd advise you all to leave now, or I might just call the police and have you arrested."

Unwilling as the man was to accept it, his own search had confirmed that there was indeed no camera in the fitting room.

Seeing the man's expression, everyone knew nothing had been found. Most of them had only come along for the spectacle, and now that there was nothing more to see, they drifted away one after another.

They all assumed the man had simply been picking a fight over nothing, and thought no more of it.

"Finished checking?" Yang Ji walked up with a smile, glanced at Manager Wang, and said, "Then it's my turn to go in and look, isn't it?"

Manager Wang had not expected Yang Ce to keep pressing the matter, and he gave a cold laugh. "Go ahead."

Yang Ce ignored his tone, stepped into the fitting room, and looked around, left and right. In the end, his gaze came to rest on the clothes hook on the wall.

With a smile, Yang Heng reached out and gave the hook a hard pull, taking it down—and from the tail end of the hook, a miniature camera came away with it. It was exquisitely small, no bigger than a thumb, and disguised as a clothes hook, it would have been very hard to spot.

"What's this, Manager Wang? Don't tell me it's an electric clothes hook!" Yang Ce held the thing up and shook it as he spoke.

"This—" Cold sweat broke out on Manager Wang's brow at once. What on earth was going on? Which bastard had installed a camera in there?

"You son of a bitch! I'll teach you to install cameras, I'll teach you!" The man who had been so dejected a moment before was suddenly like a man injected with stimulants. He seized Manager Wang by the collar and began slapping him across the face. "Go on, install another one! You hid it pretty well, didn't you? But you can't fool an expert. You're finished now! Someone's exposed you!"

"All right, that's enough. Stop hitting him." Yang Ce patted the man on the shoulder. "Call the police."

"Oh." The man was visibly grateful to Yang Juehuan. At Yang Ce's word, he stopped at once, nodded, and said, "All right, I'll do as you say. Let's call the police."

The police arrived quickly. The camera and Manager Wang were both taken back to the station, and Yang Ce and the man went along. It was while giving his statement that Yang Ce learned the man's name was Zhang Zhishen—just one character off from Lu Zhishen.

As for compensation, that would naturally be dealt with later. As for Manager Wang's shop, the police had already contacted the industry and commerce authorities to have it temporarily sealed pending the outcome of the investigation.

Coming out of the police station, Zhang Zhishen insisted on dragging Yang Yongjin off to treat him to a meal.

"There's no need for a meal," Yang Ce said, waving a hand. "I have other things to do."

"Come on, don't be like that. I owe this all to you—otherwise, as an outsider, I'd have been humiliated and gotten nothing resolved." Zhang Zhishen sighed. "You're really something. If I don't thank you properly, I won't feel right."

"You're not from around here?" Yang Mo asked with some curiosity.

"No. Actually, I came here looking for someone, and with time on my hands I went to an internet cafe. I never expected to stumble on a video of me and my girlfriend from last summer, when we came here traveling and bought clothes—someone had secretly filmed us. So I downloaded it and came to demand justice." Zhang Zhishen said.

"I see. Then I won't keep you from your search," Yang Heng said. "I really do have something to do in a bit."

"How about this—leave me your phone number, and I'll call you once I've finished my business," Zhang Zhishen said.

Seeing how insistent Zhang Zhishen was, Yang Shuoxuan had no choice but to give him his phone number.

"By the way, buddy, what's your name? I still don't know it," Zhang Zhishen asked as he saved it.

Earlier at the station, most of the officers there knew Yang Ce, so his statement had been simple enough. Zhang Zhishen's, on the other hand, had taken a long time—after all, he was the main victim, and Yang Ce and Jing Yu hardly counted for much.

"Yang Ce." Yang Ce made no secret of it.

"What?" Zhang Zhishen was startled, then suddenly cried out, "You're Yang Ce?"

Yang Xu was startled to be called out by Zhang Zhishen, and asked in surprise, "What is it? You know me?"

Zhang Zhishen shook his head. "I don't know you, but I was asked by someone to find you and deliver some things to you, and incidentally—"

"Asked by someone to deliver things to me?" Yang Mo was baffled. "Who asked you to find me?"

"Do you have a friend in Yunnan?" Zhang Zhishen asked.

A friend in Yunnan? Yang Wenru frowned. What friends did he have in Yunnan? Then suddenly Yang Ce gave a start as a name came to him, and it slipped out: "Lan Ling."

"Then it must be right." Zhang Zhishen nodded. "I was going to check your ID card—I have the ID number Miss Lan recorded here—but since you named Miss Lan right off, there can be no mistake."

Yang Ce felt a little sheepish. When had Lan Ling come to know such a pair of oddities? The man was a hulking brute, rough perhaps, but not a bad sort. The woman, though, was really beyond praise—she looked so quiet and refined, so how had she suddenly ended up doing a striptease in a fitting room? But it was none of his business, and Yang Shuoxuan could not very well ask.

"You'd better look at my ID anyway, just to avoid any mix-up," Yang Ce said. "Though you must have something to prove your own identity too, I suppose?"

"I do, I do." Zhang Zhishen nodded, fished a piece of paper from his pocket, and handed it to Yang Ce. "You should be quite familiar with the handwriting on this, shouldn't you?"

Yang Ce took the slip of paper. On it were copied out his own name and ID number, and from the handwriting it was unmistakably Lan Ling's. Yang Juehuan's eyes had always been sharper than most, and he was particularly sensitive to Lan Ling's handwriting, so he was sure there could be no forgery.

Yang Ce handed over his ID card, and after Zhang Zhishen had checked it against the paper, he returned it and nodded. "Now there can be no mistake. You really are Yang Ce."

"All right, then—the thing Lan Ling asked you to give me." Yang Ce tried to keep his voice calm, but it was hard to suppress the excitement rising in his heart.
