Chapter 452 — Guan Xuemin's Sense of Crisis

The Blossom Guardian

"Heh, he's no fool—he knows who he'll go further with!" Guan Xuemin laughed. "If not for that half of a Life-Extending Detox Pill he fished out of a trash bin, he might never have made up his mind so firmly. But that pill gave him confidence, and it settled the direction of his life ahead."

Wei Zhao nodded. If the materials Guan Xuemin had looked into were sound, then this was the only explanation. Privately, Wei Zhao admired Fatty Lai's eye—the man had actually insisted on acknowledging him as his leader.

"As for the equity split, does Grandpa Guan have any suggestions?" Now that Fatty Lai had joined them, Wei Zhao turned his mind to the question of share distribution.

"I'm an amateur at this myself, but I say half the shares must stay in your own hands!" Guan Xuemin pondered for a moment, then advised: "Everyone gets along well enough now, but better safe than sorry. If you control half the shares, you hold the final say from here on—that matters!"

"All right!" Wei Zhao wasn't worried that anyone would turn on him later, but the business with Gu Pengzhan's company was a cautionary tale, and he had no wish to deal with such messes down the road, so he agreed with Guan Xuemin: "Then this—you and Kang ** each take fifteen percent of the company. Fatty Lai is still under observation; if he truly means to follow me, giving him fifteen percent is no problem either. And the remaining fifty-five percent, mine, will go under Guan Xin's name."

"Oh?" Guan Xuemin was slightly taken aback, unable to grasp Wei Zhao's true intent. What did he mean by putting all the shares under his granddaughter's name? If the two of them had already settled into a relationship, then doing so would be perfectly reasonable—but from what he had observed, the matter between his granddaughter and Wei Zhao was a one-sided affair: his granddaughter was willing, but Wei Zhao seemed to have no such inclination.

So Wei Zhao's move now was rather intriguing. Earlier, when Wei Zhao had put the building's ownership under Guan Xin's name, Guan Xuemin had already been puzzled; now he could no longer hold back: "Xiao Yi, you've given me fifteen percent of the shares and Xinxin fifty-five percent, and Xinxin also holds the deed to the building. That way, if our family ever wants to take full control of the pharmaceutical company, it would be a word's work. Have you considered that consequence?"

"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled. He had known Guan Xuemin would ask. If Guan Xuemin had accepted all this without a word, Wei Zhao would not have said anything, but he would have thought a little less of him. The pharmaceutical company was something Wei Zhao had thrown together on a whim, with no real heart invested in it; if Guan Xuemin seized it, Wei Zhao would accept it—and count it as having seen the man's true character.

To put it plainly, the only reason Wei Zhao had founded the pharmaceutical company was that he didn't want to live off a woman and wanted a bit of pocket money of his own. And once Liu Tianyi's hundred million arrived, whether he ran a company or not no longer mattered.

Running the company was, in the end, just to win a breath of pride for Kang **, so that he wouldn't be looked down on by the Kang family of miracle doctors—just to stand up for him.

So Wei Zhao smiled and said, "Grandpa Guan, all of this was really built on your reputation. All I provided were two prescriptions. So if you want to take it over, naturally I have nothing to say."

"Heh, you trust me far too much." Guan Xuemin had no designs on any of it, but he was still moved by Wei Zhao's trust. "Put my shares under Xinxin's name as well. But if Xinxin ever tries to snatch your company, don't come settling accounts with this old man."

"She won't." Wei Zhao shook his head. Was Guan Xin that sort of person? From what he knew of her, she was not.

He chatted with Guan Xuemin a while longer about medical matters. Seeing that it was about time, Wei Zhao prepared to rise and take his leave—his schoolbag was still at school, and he had to go back for it.

"Grandpa Guan, I'll be going then. Call me if anything comes up," Wei Zhao said.

"Not waiting for Xinxin to come back? I meant to keep you here for dinner." Guan Xuemin said with some regret—partly over the academic questions they hadn't finished discussing, and partly on Xinxin's account.

Could Wei Zhao and his granddaughter really end up together? As an elder, Guan Xuemin very much wanted Wei Zhao as his grandson-in-law. Having seen Qiu Lingshan appear earlier and having heard Yang Huaijun's attitude, Guan Xuemin had felt a sense of crisis.

Yet Wei Zhao's attitude gave him some comfort. At least Wei Zhao didn't seem to care much for Qiu Lingshan, and the fact that he would put the shares under his granddaughter's name showed his trust in Xinxin—and that put Xinxin ahead at the starting line...

"Next time." Wei Zhao glanced at the time on his phone. "I still have to get back to school."

"That works too, then—next time." Guan Xuemin didn't press him. Things were different now, after all: he and Wei Zhao were partners, and Wei Zhao would surely be a frequent guest at the house from now on.

Wei Zhao left Guan Xuemin's home and drove to the school. The moment he stepped into the classroom, the bell for the last evening self-study session rang.

Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had long since grown used to Wei Zhao's frequent absences and couldn't be bothered to ask. Only Gu Mengyao felt a little aggrieved: Wei Zhao was her errand boy, and this was work hours—why did this fellow keep vanishing?

"Wei Zhao, you're back?"

Wei Zhao had just sat down when a soft voice scared him so badly his scalp nearly exploded; he almost ended up on the floor.

Feng Xiaoxiao's eyes curved into crescent moons, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly, and with an expression both cute and adorable she looked at Wei Zhao, pulling a bottle of drink from her desk. "Thirsty? I bought this specially for you."

"...Are you all right?" Wei Zhao looked at Feng Xiaoxiao in disbelief. Even if his relationship with her hadn't sunk to the level of a mortal feud, it was at least at the level of a father's murderer. Wei Zhao couldn't fathom why Feng Xiaoxiao would treat him this way. Was it a dagger hidden behind a smile?

"All right? Why wouldn't I be?" Feng Xiaoxiao blinked in confusion. "What could be wrong with me? Why do you ask?"

Her counter-question left Wei Zhao momentarily speechless. He could hardly say, You got peed on by me, and I blew up your backside with firecrackers—we're sworn enemies now, you shouldn't be acting so gentle with me.

But that was not something he could bring himself to say.
