Chapter 5049 — They Finally Came for Her
The Blossom Guardian Page 1 of 2
Strictly speaking, her reasoning was not wrong. After all, the injuries she had taken were anything but ordinary. If she were to heal herself step by step as she had before, her chances of recovery within a short time were exceedingly slim. Only by throwing everything into one desperate gamble could she seize even a sliver of a chance.
Unfortunately, she had forgotten one thing—one thing big enough to bring down utter ruin upon her!
"What is that little cold girl up to?" Wei Zhao had not used his divine sense to probe the goings-on next door, but he was extremely sensitive to spiritual energy. The upshot of Leng Leng's all-or-nothing gamble was spiritual energy spilling out in every direction. With a surge that violent, it was not just the room next door—he could have sensed it clearly from ten li away.
An ordinary person would not have noticed anything amiss, at most feeling inexplicably refreshed; even ordinary cultivators would have had trouble detecting it. But the mortal world was not what it once was. There were very likely other Heaven Dao stage cultivators in the vicinity, and even if their senses were nowhere near as sharp as Wei Zhao's, if they showed no reaction at all to such a violent surge of spiritual energy, then their five senses would have to be sealed shut.
To Wei Zhao's mind, Leng Leng doing this so abruptly was nothing short of a reckless risk. If healing attracted the nearby Heaven Dao stage cultivators to them, the consequences were simply unthinkable.
But since Leng Leng had already done it, there was no way for Wei Zhao to stop her now. Interrupting the healing by force would be just as dangerous. The only thing he could do at present was extend his divine sense to stand watch over the little cold girl, while at the same time preparing for the worst, just in case.
Time slipped by, drop by drop. The first half of the night passed without incident. But just as dawn was drawing near, Wei Zhao's brow suddenly knitted. His divine sense had clearly picked up two people racing toward them at high speed—and both were faces he knew. They were none other than Sun Baimei and Fei Yangsheng, the very two who had hunted him last time!
The pair had plainly sensed the abnormal surge of spiritual energy here, which was why they were heading straight over—and they were moving fast. By now Wei Zhao had no chance even if he wanted to take Leng Leng and flee. Interrupting the healing took time in itself, and since neither side had yet torn away the veil, explaining his identity would be another hassle. By the time that was done, the two would already be upon them.
In his desperation, Wei Zhao could not afford to worry about all that. He simply used his divine sense to warn Leng Leng: "Someone's coming!"
By now Leng Leng's healing had reached its final stage, and success was in sight. She was confident that once every injury to her physical body was wiped away, there would be no relapse. And then, out of nowhere, Wei Zhao's voice rang out in her mind.
"Is this a hallucination?" Leng Leng's first reaction was not astonishment. Instead, she blushed for no reason at all—she assumed she had sunk too deep into it, and that was why her mind had conjured a phantom.
But even as she wondered, she could not help snapping out of her fully meditative state. She might not be able to blanket the whole compound with her divine sense as easily as Wei Zhao could, but if anything at all unusual stirred in this apartment building, she would certainly notice it. The moment she felt the auras of Sun Baimei and Fei Yangsheng, her whole face drained with shock!
At this point she could not spare a thought for the healing, nor for why a hallucination should have appeared out of thin air. The only thing to do was get up and dress at once. At the same time she stamped her foot in frustration—so close! She had been on the verge of full recovery, and now it had all come to nothing!
Once inside the apartment building, Sun Baimei and Fei Yangsheng made straight for Leng Leng's room without the slightest hesitation. In the next room, Wei Zhao quietly observed it all through his divine sense, secretly making his preparations.
Wei Zhao had already deduced that the two had been drawn here by Leng Leng, but given their previous clash, he could not help worrying that his own identity might be exposed. If that happened, his prospects today would be truly grim. As things stood now, though, he was in the shadows and had far more room to maneuver—he would not be left entirely on the defensive.
More importantly, this sudden accident had handed him an opportunity—an opportunity to find out just who these Heaven Dao stage experts were and what they wanted!
If his guess was right, Leng Leng and these two must come from the same place, and most likely knew each other. In that case, as long as he could hear their conversation clearly, with a bit of luck he might just obtain the answer to the riddle outright.
Sure enough, after Sun Baimei and Fei Yangsheng forced their way into Leng Leng's room, they did not attack. Instead, a look of unexpected delight surfaced on their faces!
"So it really is you. We meet again, Miss Leng," Sun Baimei said with a cold chuckle.
Fei Yangsheng said nothing, but he quietly circled around behind Leng Leng and blocked her retreat. The two of them closed her in, one in front and one behind—plainly they had not come with good intentions.
This development caught Wei Zhao somewhat off guard. He had guessed that the two sides most likely knew each other, but he had never imagined the relationship would be one of irreconcilable hostility. Judging by this stance, Leng Leng had clearly crossed swords with these two before as well.
"Sun Baimei, I haven't settled the score with you for wounding me last time, and now you want to silence me for good?" Leng Leng watched their every move warily. Because she had just forcibly cut off her healing, striking out rashly would very likely invite a backlash, so she had to find a way to buy time and recover her condition. Otherwise she would already have fled.
"No, no, I've never once thought of silencing anyone. You know how I feel about you, Miss Leng. I only want to win the fair lady for myself. After all the years I've spent pursuing you with a heart full of devotion, won't you show me even a little something in return?" Sun Baimei said, feigning deep feeling.
"A heart full of devotion? You shameless wretch, the hide on you is thick indeed. The moment you happened to glimpse the treasure my master gave me, you began to covet it and wanted to kill me—and that counts as devotion?" Leng Leng said with a scoff.
Speaking of it made her regretful. Sun Baimei had pursued her for many years, and though she had never felt the slightest thing for him, this time, out training in the mortal world, she had unwittingly let down her guard—enough that he had caught a glimpse of her treasure. That was what had brought the murderous pursuit down on her. If she had not fled quickly, she would already be dead.
"Miss Leng misunderstands me. Have you never heard the saying, 'Marry a chicken and follow the chicken, marry a dog and follow the dog'? Once you become my cultivation partner, what's yours is naturally mine. That item might as well be kept in my keeping—wouldn't that be all the safer? What do you say?" Sun Baimei said, his face utterly earnest.
"I would rather die than be your cultivation partner. Put that hope out of your head," Leng Leng said in a low voice.
