Chapter 1231 — Qiu Lingshan's Little Schemes

The Blossom Guardian

"Xiaoxiao's been kidnapped?" Wei Zhao was startled the moment he heard it. As for who had done it, he could not have cared less; his only worry was Feng Xiaoxiao's safety. "Do you know where she is? I'm coming over right now!"

"Xiaoxiao's at the Qianhua Waterfront compound at the moment, but the situation is a little complicated right now. How about this: once you get here, I'll explain everything in detail." Feng Tianlong said. "I'm on my way there myself. Let's meet at the compound gate. Do you know my car?"

"Yes, all right, I'm coming right away!" Wei Zhao was anxious. Feng Tianlong had mentioned the identity of the kidnappers: they were deathsworn. Wei Zhao understood what that word meant — such men were the hardest to deal with, acting without the slightest regard for consequences, because they feared neither death nor any aftermath.

Wei Zhao hurriedly pulled on his clothes and left his room.

The young miss and Xiaoshu were in the living room, looking up the latest news about the star Xu Shilan on a tablet, hoping to see whether she had any plans for a concert soon. Now that they had already settled things with Feng Xiaoxiao, they naturally had to start putting the plan into action.

Seeing Wei Zhao come out of his room, dressing as he walked, Gu Mengyao looked up, puzzled. "Wei Zhao, are you going out?"

"Xiaoxiao's been kidnapped. I have to go out for a while." Wei Zhao nodded, his face somewhat grave. "Don't wait up for me tonight. Call Tang Yun for me and tell her — and don't worry about me. I'll be fine."

"Ah!" Both Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were startled by his words, but seeing how rushed he looked, they could hardly press him further. Time was short, and they did not want to hold him up. They only nodded. "All right, then — be careful!"

Wei Zhao answered and left the villa, driving Feng Xiaoxiao's Land Rover toward the Qianhua Waterfront compound. The place was not unfamiliar to him: back when he had gone to see Xie Guangbo, a shareholder of the Gu Group, the man's home had been in that very compound.

So Wei Zhao knew the way well and tore along at full speed, arriving before long at the compound gate. The gate was now ablaze with light, police cars of every description parked all over the place, and even a few fire trucks from the authorities had been dispatched.

The moment Wei Zhao's car crossed the cordon, two police officers stopped him. "What's your business here?"

"You're Qiu Lingshan's men?" Wei Zhao looked at the officer before him, who seemed faintly familiar, and asked.

"Yes. And you are...?" The officer was startled too, and studied Wei Zhao closely. He looked somewhat familiar, but the officer could not place him.

"Feng Tianlong asked me to come. You can go and check with him." Wei Zhao said.

"You're looking for Captain Feng? Then please get out of the car and come with me." Seeing that Wei Zhao knew not only Qiu Lingshan but Feng Tianlong as well, the officer did not bother to seek permission, and led him straight to Qiu Lingshan.

Of course, his authority was not enough to take Wei Zhao in to see Feng Tianlong; Qiu Lingshan would have to escort him there. So there was no fear of Wei Zhao being some sort of criminal — for even if he were, the worst he could do was see Qiu Lingshan. He would never get near Feng Tianlong.

"Wei Zhao?" Qiu Lingshan was slightly taken aback when she saw him.

"Take me to see Feng Tianlong. Xiaoxiao is my girlfriend." Wei Zhao glanced at Qiu Lingshan and said mildly.

"What?" Qiu Lingshan was stunned. She had never expected that Feng Tianlong's daughter, Feng Xiaoxiao, would be Wei Zhao's girlfriend. Wasn't Wei Zhao's girlfriend Tang Yun? How had she turned into Feng Xiaoxiao? This left Qiu Lingshan rather unsettled.

When you go looking for a girlfriend, why not me? You had to go and find someone else? Am I, Qiu Lingshan, so worthless that I'm not even fit to be your girlfriend?

"What do you mean, 'what'?" Wei Zhao frowned.

"N-nothing..." Seeing that Wei Zhao was angry, Qiu Lingshan was startled and did not dare say more. She hurriedly led him to Feng Tianlong.

Yet as they walked, she still managed to ask, as if offhandedly, "Wasn't your girlfriend Tang Yun? How did she become Feng Xiaoxiao?"

"She's my second wife." Wei Zhao had known Qiu Lingshan would ask such things, and he did not hide it — it was no secret. Qiu Lingshan had simply never known because she had never paid attention; a little investigation now and she would have the whole picture.

"Second wife? You've taken another second wife? And Tang Yun agreed?" Qiu Lingshan found it hard to believe.

"She agreed. Why do you have so many questions? What is it you're really trying to ask?" Wei Zhao glared at her.

"Uh... nothing..." What Qiu Lingshan actually wanted to ask was this: if you're taking a second wife, couldn't you have given your little silly girl of a classmate first consideration? But she could hardly come out and say it now. Feng Xiaoxiao had been kidnapped, after all, and was in real danger — how could Wei Zhao have the heart to talk of love? Ask a question like that, and she would surely get a tongue-lashing.

"Xiaoyi!" Though Feng Tianlong was surrounded by a crowd at the very center, his eyes never stopped roving the surroundings. The instant he saw Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan coming, he stepped out of the group and strode over quickly.

The people around Feng Tianlong were all from the Mysterious Investigation Bureau's Songshan City branch. Word had already come in: the Red Conch's deathsworn were in the Qianhua Waterfront compound, Building A-16, on the eighteenth floor. According to the compound's property records, that entire floor of Building A-16 was registered under the name of a foreigner, and for years no one had lived there.

Clearly, Red Conch had bought this apartment long ago, keeping it against a rainy day. Organized criminal gangs like Red Conch always held plenty of cards in their hands; buying a place here was nothing out of the ordinary.

And even if it never came to use, they could sell it later and pocket a handsome profit — the price of housing at Qianhua Waterfront had more than doubled since the project first went on the market, after all.

Now that the investigation was clear, Feng Tianlong had the police take the property management staff around to notify the owners of Building A-16 floor by floor, telling them to leave their apartments for the time being and take shelter — a bomb had been planted in the building and could go off at any moment.

The people living in this building were mostly wealthy; the moment they heard the news, they abandoned their belongings and evacuated without a second word. That saved the property staff and the police a great deal of breath. Most of their money sat in the bank; they treasured their lives more than other people did, and as for the appliances and furniture in their apartments, those could be left behind.
