Chapter 1134 — The Pranked Maimed Wolf: And by Now They No Longer Quite Believed the Long-Haired Man's Words Either! This Man Truly Seemed to Have a Problem! Moments Ago He Had Sworn to Fight the Matter Out to the Bitter End and Demand a Price, Yet Now, Once Exposed, He Couldn't Wait to Run?
"You... you're telling me what to do? I've changed my mind - I'll let you off this time!" The long-haired man threw the words over his shoulder as he backed away, ready to leave.
"Zhang Gongzi, your identity has been established. You are a hemophiliac, and you are currently under treatment with Dr. Su at First People's Hospital. Have you anything left to say?" Guan Xuemin had received the file Dean Qin sent over, and he laid it out flat.
"That... you're talking rubbish! I don't know any First People's Hospital, and I don't know any Dr. Su Xiuhong either... eh?" Zhang Gongzi had been protesting his innocence, but he stopped halfway through, for he had let the cat out of the bag! The man had merely said "Dr. Su" - and he himself had gone and given the doctor's full name...
"How did you know Dr. Su's name is Su Xiuhong? Didn't you just say you don't know First People's Hospital?" Fatty Lai jabbed a finger at Zhang Gongzi and barked.
"I... I... I'm off!" Knowing his cover was blown, Zhang Gongzi dared not linger another instant; he broke into a run.
Roars of laughter burst through the hall. By now it was plain to everyone that Zhang Gongzi was a fraud, brought in deliberately to wreck the event - and the moment he was exposed, he bolted! Quite a few people felt a pang of shame; they had very nearly misunderstood Dr. Guan Pharmaceuticals. What a fine company it was: a benefit to society, which had rescued so many poisoned students, and free of charge to boot. How could anyone doubt its reputation or its technical strength?
"A fraud! A downright fraud - everyone, get this on camera and expose him!" a reporter shouted.
"Right... who was it that brought this man here? Maimed Wolf, wasn't it?" Another reporter knew Maimed Wolf, and he pointed at him now: "That's him - Maimed Wolf, that black-hearted scoundrel. Others may not know him, but I do: he is the scum of our trade!"
"Maimed Wolf? I think I've heard of him as well - a man who takes dirty money to write smear pieces!" Still another who knew Maimed Wolf sprang to his feet, jabbing a finger and cursing him outright.
Maimed Wolf became the target of every eye on the instant. He hunched his neck, dared not stay a moment longer, and slunk away from the press conference alongside Zhang Gongzi, thoroughly humiliated!
"Our product sells for only one hundred and ninety-nine yuan, and it may well invite the jealousy and slander of a few competitors - but that is all right. Facts and time will prove that our product is the very best!" Kang ** at last breathed a sigh of relief. This was the first product launch he had ever presided over, and naturally he had not wanted to botch it; and now it seemed he had come through safe and sound.
Maimed Wolf was beside himself with fury and burning with不甘 - yet there was nothing he could do about it. He swung himself onto the motorcycle at the roadside and fired up the engine, but after only two paces came a tremendous BANG: the tire blew, hurling Maimed Wolf clean off the bike. He crashed down onto the curb, knocked half his teeth out, and on the spot became Miserable Wolf instead of Maimed Wolf.
"Damn it - how did the tire blow?" Miserable Wolf muttered, glaring at the motorcycle where it lay by the roadside, already too hideous to look at, in no small displeasure.
"Hahaha!" Peals of laughter rolled through the crowd on the scene. Whatever had befallen Maimed Wolf, he had it coming to him!
"Wow, hubby Wei Zhao, your trick really does work - the moment he got on the motorcycle, the tire blew!" Feng Xiaoxiao pumped her fist in excitement.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled as well. He had noticed before that Maimed Wolf was skulking about and acting fishy, as if something were up, and sure enough the man turned out to be a devious rogue. Wei Zhao thought back: among the reporters who had come calling at First Hospital during the student poisoning incident, Maimed Wolf had been one of them!
The instant Maimed Wolf made his first attack, Feng Xiaoxiao was so furious she wanted to play a trick on the man. So Wei Zhao obligingly told her which motorcycle belonged to Maimed Wolf, and showed her how to tamper with it so that the tire would blow outright!
And so Feng Xiaoxiao went to work - and sure enough, Maimed Wolf's tire blew!
For the crimes the man had committed, this was no punishment at all; but with a hallful of eyes upon them, Wei Zhao could not very well do anything to him in the open. A little underhanded mischief was the most he could manage, and that was that.
Tang Yun looked at Feng Xiaoxiao and Wei Zhao; those two really were well suited to each other - even playing pranks on people together.
Yet Tang Yun harbored no envy. She was genuinely happy for Feng Xiaoxiao: that she could live out the final moments of her life in happiness and joy every single day made Tang Yun happy too. Had she and Wei Zhao failed to get along, then Tang Tang Yun would have been the one to grow anxious and sorrowful!
This press conference, apart from the unexpected business with Maimed Wolf, had gone quite smoothly all in all. Kang ** fielded a few more questions from the reporters, and the conference drew to a successful close!
"What kind of crap did you dig up? What kind of mess is this?" Seeing the affair botched, Kang Zhaoming flew into a rage and began berating Wang Subin! The success or failure of this matter bore directly on his standing and his clout within the Kang family. He had only just won Dr. Kang's recognition and meant to keep pressing his advantage - who could have guessed that today's business would go wrong?
"Young Master Ming, I'm sorry - I'd no idea it would turn out like this! That Guan Xuemin really does have something in him, to come out and say at once that Zhang Gongzi is a hemophiliac; we never foresaw that!" Wang Subin said with a long face. "There's nothing wrong with our plan - this was an accident!"
"That's true - it was an accident. What's it got to do with us?" Kang Zhaoming thought it over and saw the point, and resolved to report the matter to his grandfather all the same, truthfully; after all, this was nothing but an accident, something unforeseeable.
Wang Subin breathed a sigh of relief. Kang Zhaoming had, at last, let it drop.
Kang Zhaoming dialed his grandfather's number: "Hello? Grandfather? It's Zhaoming!"
"Zhaoming, how are things coming along? Your plan really is something else - the moment I mentioned it to your uncle and your father, everyone slapped the table in delight. Sending a hemophiliac to stir up trouble - now that is sheer genius!" Dr. Kang's laughter came rolling down the line. "No ordinary external remedy works on a hemophiliac anyway - never mind his wound medicine; our own golden wound salve wouldn't do a thing either!"
"Grandfather, things took an unexpected turn!" Kang Zhaoming said with a bitter face. "I never thought Guan Xuemin had it in him - he saw right through that hemophiliac!"
