Chapter 747 — Wants to See Wei Zhao

The Blossom Guardian

"As a matter of fact, the husband-and-wife thieves didn't name anyone else at first, but we confiscated a work notebook from them, and it contains some leads." Chen Yutian smiled and handed a photocopy to Liu Bojia.

Liu Bojia glanced at the photocopy of the work notebook Chen Yutian handed him, and his expression changed at once!

There on the photocopy, plainly written, was his own name—Liu Bojia—along with an account of how he had scouted tomb sites together with the tomb-robbing gang...

Those words alone were hardly ironclad proof, but the crux of the matter was this: Liu Bojia did not know that the husband-and-wife thieves had both been shot dead while resisting. That being so, so long as the police questioned the pair about Liu Bojia, there was no reason to think they would keep silent!

In that moment Liu Bojia was no longer inclined to hide anything. There was no hiding it anyway; better to come clean about everything at once.

"What the notebook says is true. That lunatic killer from before must have been hired by the Red Tower tomb-robbing crew to silence me..." Liu Bojia said with a sigh.

"The Red Tower tomb-robbing crew? This tomb—you discovered it together with the Red Tower crew and the husband-and-wife thieves?" Chen Yutian asked.

"It would be more accurate to say it was discovered by three tomb-robbing gangs together—Red Tower, the husband-and-wife thieves, and Lao Hei..." Liu Bojia shook his head. "I was there in something like the capacity of an expert. I've done a bit of research on traps and hidden passages in tombs, so whenever Red Tower mounted an operation they would always call me in, and each time they would give me a share of the spoils. You could call it a partnership..."

"And this time, why did he want to kill you to shut you up?" Chen Yutian asked.

"I've been inside that tomb. It's monstrously dangerous, and I wasn't fully confident I could open it. But from past experience, where there is such danger there must be great treasure. I meant to come back, study the matter carefully, go through the records, and then work out a way to crack it..." Liu Bojia said.

"And that has no connection to the silencing either?" Chen Yutian frowned.

"Red Tower's people thought I meant to keep it all for myself. And in fact, I did have that thought..." Liu Bojia smiled bitterly. "We worked together for so many years—who doesn't know who? He read my mind, and he was afraid I would leak word or try to take the tomb's treasure for myself, so he decided to kill me and shut me up..."

"Write up everything you know about the tomb's location and how to get in, and give it to us," Chen Yutian said.

"You want to go into the tomb?" Liu Bojia was startled. "That's impossible. You have no professionals with you. If you go in, I'm afraid you won't come out..."

"That's not for you to worry about." Qiu Lingshan cut Liu Bojia off. "All you need to do is cooperate with the police. Your attitude will ultimately determine your sentence."

"All right..." Liu Bojia said nothing more, and nodded.

Since he had chosen to cooperate, he would of course cooperate. He knew as well that, given what he had done before, even if he escaped the death penalty he would get life; and even if it were a fixed term, he was already in his forties, and whether he would live to see release was anyone's guess.

Before going to prison, there were still some things he ought to account for. Tomb robber though he was, Liu Bojia was a man who repaid kindness.

"The person who saved me from the lunatic killer last time—was that one of yours?" Liu Bojia asked.

"Why do you ask?" Qiu Lingshan was slightly taken aback.

"My assets come to about thirty million. I'll take out ten million to reward him..." Liu Bojia said. "In thanks for saving my life."

"Your money is black money. It will be confiscated," Qiu Lingshan said flatly.

"No, it isn't. My money all came from legitimate sources—writing articles for magazines, working as a guide and expert for various professional expedition outfits. There's a ledger in my study; every sum is recorded, entry by entry." Liu Bojia smiled. "As for the antiques I got from tomb robbing, I never sold a single piece. They're all in my basement. You'll see when you go look."

"Oh?" Qiu Lingshan was surprised. Then she nodded. "If that's really the case, the police will consider respecting your wishes."

"Also, the doctor who saved my life today—I'll take out another ten million to reward him," Liu Bojia said. "That leaves ten million. If I live to get out of prison, it will be enough for me to live on. I've lost my wife and child; what use is so much money to me? Better to give it to the people who helped me... And if I'm sentenced to death, then just donate that remaining ten million to archaeological research institutions... Let that be the last wish of this man of archaeology..."

Qiu Lingshan had not expected that Liu Bojia was not, after all, a man of monstrous evil—that he still had a conscience and a kind heart.

In fact, thinking it over, the crimes he had committed were not of the utterly heartless kind.

"The one who saved you that day and the one who saved you today are the same person." Qiu Lingshan did not want to deceive Liu Bojia. "Are you sure you want to give him twenty million?"

"The same person?" Qiu Lingshan's words startled Liu Bojia too. "He's a doctor?"

"You could say he is, and you could say he isn't." Qiu Lingshan did not answer the question directly.

"Could I... see him?" Liu Bojia mused for a moment, then suddenly asked.

"You want to see him? What for?" Qiu Lingshan found Liu Bojia's request a little odd.

"He saved me. I want to give him something to his benefit," Liu Bojia said. "Could you help me get in touch with him?"

"What benefit?" Qiu Lingshan asked, curious.

"It has nothing to do with my own case, so I can keep it from you." Liu Bojia was blunt about it; he knew he was going in, and he no longer cared.

"All right, I'll help you get in touch. But whether he agrees to see you isn't up to me." Qiu Lingshan nodded. If the benefit were meant for someone else, she might have pressed further, but since Liu Bojia said he wanted to give Wei Zhao a benefit, she did not want to ask. In her heart she still hoped Wei Zhao would get something out of it—otherwise, having lost so much true qi, he would have taken a real loss!

Liu Bojia nodded. "I'm tired. I need to rest. Once I've recovered, I'll give you the information on the tomb."

Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yutian did not linger either, and left Liu Bojia's ward.

"I didn't expect Liu Bojia to be so cooperative this time." Qiu Lingshan truly had not expected this attitude from Liu Bojia; she had thought it would take several rounds of psychological pressure to make him talk.
