Chapter 677 — Tank Top Guy
"Oh? You have an idea? Out with it, then — if it truly works, a little suffering on my part is acceptable!" Kang Zhaoming did not care for hardship. In his view, chasing women was a pleasure, and it ought to be smooth and easy; if it meant suffering, what the hell was the point of chasing at all? Wasn't that just asking for trouble? He would rather not chase — there were plenty of targets, after all; it wasn't as though women had run out.
But Guan Xin was different. To win Guan Xin and coax out the secret formula of Dr. Guan's pharmaceutical group — that was Kang Zhaoming's task at hand. Whether he could secure an advantageous position within the family in the future rested on this single stroke. Though Kang Zhaolong had not yet shown him much hostility, Kang Zhaoming knew well that if he remained good for nothing, then once Grandfather died, Kang Zhaolong would never give him a kind look again.
"Young Master Ming, think about it — Guan Xin is a nurse at the First Hospital, isn't she?" Wang Shubin began his analysis.
"Isn't that stating the obvious? You already know the answer, so why ask?" Kang Zhaoming was a little displeased. "Of course she's a nurse at the First Hospital! Haven't I told you so?"
"Young Master Ming, hear me out before you speak!" Wang Shubin said. "Guan Xin is a nurse at the First Hospital. So tell me — who are the people she comes into contact with most in her daily work?"
"Doctors?" Kang Zhaoming thought for a moment. "Good heavens, you're not suggesting I become a doctor, are you? I've no interest in that at all!"
"Young Master Ming, how could becoming a doctor be the work of a single day and night?" Wang Shubin smiled bitterly. "A scheme as rotten as that wouldn't come from me, Wang Shubin, your own military adviser!"
"Oh? Then what do you mean?" Hearing that he was not being asked to become a doctor, Kang Zhaoming set his mind at ease.
"Patients! A nurse, of course, has the most contact with patients every day. So what I mean is for you to become a patient, Young Master Ming!" Wang Shubin said.
"You want me to fake an illness and use that to get close to Guan Xin?" Kang Zhaoming's eyes lit up at once. Now that was a fine idea — why hadn't he thought of it himself? If he became a patient, wouldn't he be able to see Guan Xin every day, openly and justifiably?
"Faking it definitely won't do. As you said, Guan Xin is no fool — if you pretended to be ill, wouldn't she see through it at a glance?" Wang Shubin waved a hand. "If you're going to be ill, it has to be a real illness. That's why I said you'd have to suffer a bit!"
"A real illness... mm, now that is an idea!" Kang Zhaoming nodded. "Then tell me, what illness should I come down with?"
"Well... generally speaking, even an ordinary fever or cold can get you admitted, as long as you're willing to spend the money. The hospital has no reason to refuse, does it?" Wang Shubin said after some thought.
"Fine, then — a fever and a cold. That's easier too. Other illnesses, even if you wanted them, aren't so easy to catch!" Kang Zhaoming also felt that only after being hospitalized could he approach Guan Xin openly and justifiably. "But this weather... I'm afraid even a cold won't be easy to catch, will it?"
Kang Zhaoming looked at the blazing sun outside the car window. The April weather was already very hot; catching a cold did not seem easy.
"And that's why I said you'd have to suffer a bit!" Wang Shubin said. "I know there's an ice rink nearby. Young Master Ming, shall we go sit for a while?"
"Let's go!" Kang Zhaoming gritted his teeth. For the sake of chasing women, for the sake of his standing in the family, he would endure it! This time it had to succeed — what was a little hardship?
And so Kang Zhaoming and his entourage swept in grand procession to the ice rink, and under the utterly astonished gazes of the crowd, walked onto the ice.
Zhu Xiaozhang and Wang Shubin both wore thick, warm hockey jerseys, while Kang Zhaoming, in a short-sleeved tank top and shorts, sat down in the spectator seats with his teeth clenched tight.
"Damn, now that's a tough guy!" The people in the rink could not help but exclaim at the sight of Kang Zhaoming's attire.
"That's incredible, isn't it? He's practically Tank Top Guy!" A young girl took out her phone, ready to snap a photo of Kang Zhaoming and post it online. A new generation of "Guy" was born!
Kang Zhaoming had been shivering with cold, but when he heard everyone in the rink exclaiming and praising him, his vanity was instantly satisfied, and he even struck a pose to oblige the girl taking pictures.
"Look at him — what a physique, wearing a tank top and shorts in here!" A man in glasses spoke with considerable envy. "We couldn't do it. Too much time spent on women, our bodies are weak — we can't take the cold!"
Kang Zhaoming was immensely pleased with himself, thinking: I've had my share of women too, but look at me — I'm a legend!
Just as Kang Zhaoming was gloating, a chill suddenly swept over him, and he could not help but sneeze: "Ah — ah — ah — ah — choo!"
A great string of snot came spurting out with it, splattering everywhere, sticky and thoroughly disgusting.
"Damn, so he's not a tough guy after all — he's just a show-off. And here I thought he wasn't cold!" The man who had exclaimed earlier heard Kang Zhaoming sneeze and could not help but feel a touch of contempt.
As for the girl who had been taking pictures with her phone, the expression on her face turned wonderfully complicated in an instant. It seemed 'Tank Top Guy' was about to become 'Show-off Guy' — or perhaps simply 'Guy'!
And the man in glasses gave Kang Zhaoming a look of sympathy. "Brother, you're worse off than me? I'm this weak and I didn't even sneeze. You're really a sorry specimen, aren't you?"
Kang Zhaoming was at once ashamed and furious, his face flushing red, yet he had no way to retort. It was Zhu Xiaozhang who could not stand it any longer; he stood up, pointed at the talkers, and shouted arrogantly, "What the fuck are you staring at? Never seen a man cultivate before? Young Master Ming came here to train his kung fu — what the hell would you people know?"
Cultivate? Come here to cultivate with snot bubbling from his nose? Was his head screwed on wrong? The others all shook their heads speechlessly and paid Kang Zhaoming no more attention.
Though Kang Zhaoming had lost face, thinking of his plan to win the girl, he knew he had to persevere — he could not give up halfway! He had to cultivate himself a cold, no matter what!
"Ah — ah — ah — ah — choo!" Kang Zhaoming sneezed again.

Under Can Lang's lead, the media of Songshan City presented an almost one-sided front, all of them attacking First High School, describing it as little short of a demon high school, a base of terror!
In fact, apart from that one interview with Can Lang, Gu Pengzhan and Ding Binggong had not faced any media again, and as for the hospital's emergency room, even if the media wished to enter, the hospital would never grant approval. So the news media knew nothing of the latest developments.
Unwilling to fall behind, they could only rehash Can Lang's leftovers, revising his articles and republishing them, while the television stations also ran special reports on the matter. As a result, the parents of Songshan City First High School all began looking into transferring their children to other schools.
