Chapter 291 — A Sudden Incident

The Blossom Guardian

Tang Yun said nothing more. It was only a passing surge of feeling. Seeing how pitiful Xiao Fen was, she refused to repeat her mistakes, and that was why she kept asking Wei Zhao to confirm his heart again and again. She had to be certain of it, because she had already fallen too deep to free herself...

Qiu Lingshan was deeply vexed. How was it that bad luck had dogged her from the very moment she took over the criminal investigation team?

First Hei Bao had escaped, only to be fortunately dragged back by Wei Zhao. She had thought she could enjoy a few easy days, only to have a maniacal killer suddenly explode into violence while under treatment in the hospital, wounding the detective assigned to guard him and then bursting out the door to escape!

When the maniacal killer had first been brought in, he had already been gravely wounded. Of course, those wounds had been dealt by Qiu Lingshan herself, and she knew exactly how heavy her hand had been, for she simply could not stomach the man!

He had wiped out a whole family, not even sparing a three-year-old boy, and his methods had been unspeakably savage, stuffing the child into a washing machine and churning him to death alive! Toward such a bestial man, Qiu Lingshan would naturally show no mercy!

When they moved to arrest him, the animal had resisted, which was exactly what Qiu Lingshan wanted, and with fists and kicks she beat him straight into the hospital! Though the courts would sentence him to death anyway, letting him die so easily would have been far too kind to him!

So Qiu Lingshan had risked punishment to send the beast to the hospital instead. Luckily his cruelty was so extreme that it enraged the public, and the press did not blame Qiu Lingshan but turned its fire on the killer instead. With Yang Huaijun also speaking up for her, the matter had quietly passed.

The maniacal killer had lain in the hospital for a week. By all reason his injuries could not have healed in even a month, yet he had miraculously burst up, wounded the detective guarding him, and fled without a trace.

At her subordinate's report, Qiu Lingshan's whole face went black! Another escape, was this not an invitation for others to mock her incompetence? When Yang Huaijun had been captain, the team's affairs had been run in perfect order, yet only days after she took charge, trouble kept breaking out one after another, and though the last mess had just been settled, here came another!

How could Qiu Lingshan not burn with anger? And just then Wei Zhao had to call about license plates, and she had come within an inch of cursing him out and slamming the phone down.

Officers had already been posted at every major road, certain that the maniacal killer would be spotted the moment he showed himself! Yet bizarrely, since fleeing the hospital, the killer seemed to have vanished, with no one laying eyes on him again...

By rights the maniacal killer's appearance was unmistakable, his head wrapped in bandages and his body in a hospital gown. So conspicuous a man running onto the street should have produced witnesses somehow, yet regrettably there were none.

The pressure on Qiu Lingshan can well be imagined. Unwilling to trouble Yang Huaijun again, she could only bear the strain herself and dispatch more officers to hunt the escaped maniac.

The phone suddenly rang, and Qiu Lingshan snatched it up at once. "This is Qiu Lingshan."

"Captain Qiu, this is Liu Wangli, something has happened!" Liu Wangli's voice came over the line.

"What is it?" Qiu Lingshan's heart lurched. It was truly a case of whatever she dreaded coming to pass. There was already trouble enough, how could there be more?

"Huang Guanya never escaped at all, he has been lurking in the hospital all along!" Liu Wangli said hurriedly. "He just tried to kill Liu Bojia again, but a nurse who walked into Liu Bojia's ward caught him in the act, and now Huang Guanya is holding the nurse hostage and demanding that we police get him a helicopter to escape..."

Liu Wangli finished his report in one breath. Though it was less than rigorous, time was short and he had no chance to explain in detail.

Huang Guanya was that maniacal killer, and Liu Bojia was one of the survivors of the massacre. Though Huang Guanya had stabbed him in the heart, his heart lay slightly out of place, so he had not died outright, and after being rushed to the hospital for rescue he had narrowly kept his life...

Yet who would have thought that even now Huang Guanya still refused to let Liu Bojia go. What manner of hatred could drive him to this?

Qiu Lingshan had questioned Liu Bojia more than once, wanting to know whether he had made an enemy of Huang Guanya, but Liu Bojia flatly denied knowing Huang Guanya at all, and when pressed about any enemies, he would plead either exhaustion or pain in his heart. Qiu Lingshan was helpless and meant to question him thoroughly once his wounds had fully healed. But one thing was certain, Liu Bojia was definitely hiding something.

Huang Guanya's side yielded even less. Apart from repeating over and over how he had stuffed the three-year-old boy into the washing machine and churned him to death, he would only recount how he had raped and murdered Liu Bojia's wife, and even detectives seasoned by many cases were left chilled to the marrow by his sickening account.

Before, judging by the statements of Huang Guanya and Liu Bojia, the two had seemed complete strangers, and Huang Guanya had been taken for a madman killing out of psychosis, while Liu Bojia did not know Huang Guanya at all, much less bear him any hatred.

But now that Huang Guanya had struck again inside Liu Bojia's ward, this was no simple matter. There was something strange and unnatural about it!

Liu Wangli was the captain of the First Squadron charged with searching the area around the hospital, so when trouble broke out there he was the first to arrive. Daring no delay, he sent a negotiator to parley with Huang Guanya while hurriedly reporting the situation to Qiu Lingshan.

"I am coming right over!" Qiu Lingshan hung up and set off for the hospital at once. No wonder Huang Guanya could not be found anywhere, the beast had never left the hospital at all!

Inside a hospital, after all, there must be many people in patient gowns with gauze on their heads, so it was only natural he had drawn no attention.

Wei Zhao and Tang Yun were sitting on the hospital bed vowing eternal love when Liu Xinwen came stumbling into the ward. "This is terrible, terrible, something awful has happened!"

Wei Zhao and Tang Yun, along with Kang Xiaobo and Xiao Fen who had been chatting, all started and looked up at Liu Xinwen in puzzlement, wondering what awful thing she could mean.

"They say a maniacal killer has seized a nurse hostage in a ward, and a crowd of police have already surrounded it, right at the end of the corridor on our floor. It frightened me half to death, so I ran straight back to warn you..." Liu Xinwen said, still shaken with fear.

"A maniacal killer?" Wei Zhao was startled. "How did he get into the hospital?"

"Who knows," Liu Xinwen shook her head. "Luckily he did not come to our ward, or we would have been in danger."
